industry known as Assisted
Living has emerged.
Accommodations and services
offered vary widely whether they
exist as freestanding facilities or as a component of Continuing Care Retirement
Communities (CCRCs) or Independent Living housing complexes.
Today numerous choices are available to our aging population that fall between
staying at home and going to a Nursing Home. Due to the demands for
alternative lifestyles that are conducive to meeting needs and preferences
throughout the aging process, a rapidly growing senior living and care housing
industry has emerged.
Meeting personal needs such as comfort, security, social opportunities, and
health care persuades many seniors to opt for relocating versus aging at home.
The move to assisted living as the long-term care option of choice is becoming
increasingly more common.
Making this tough decision of choosing the right retirement setting even more
difficult is the confusing "assisted living" terms commonly used and the absence
of any uniform definition of services. Assisted living facilities are not fully regulated
by the federal government and each state sets their own licensing requirements,
regulations and inspection procedures.
In general, long-term care housing options fall into four main categories based upon the level of care and types of services
provided: Independent Living/Retirement Communities, Assisted Living Facilities, Continuing Care Retirement Communities
